a pilgrim’s rest

paul-klee-eclair

I think about Autumn
that haggard face at night
the light that ushers in another time
and softens all of my might.

I wonder what life beyond brings
adventure in ocherous hues
resting soul shall embrace this time
sky’s color shift from blues.

The Lord’s present glory is nigh
I pause for one last thought
to cross the Jordan to my rest
a pilgrim’s end thus sought.

Alas the trials of a day
preclude this hasty feat
as precious joy arises now
and delays the Mercy seat.

I wonder then, what life should bring
in orange and tangerine
more time for faith to build upon
a godly life serene.

I long to peer
inside your heart
to feel the things
that urge new start.
entrancing words
roll off your tongue
like the sheltering breezes
boughs hide among.
the imprint of wiser paths
across impending icy field
leads me upon stinging frost
with progress’ fruitful yield.
I yearn to see your face today
and know a warmth once more
to travel on my pilgrim’s path
and pass through open door.
