..where we build

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

1 Corinthians 3:16,17 (NKJV)

Realize, the Rock we build our church upon is Jesus . The epistle is written to a church because the body of Christ needs to be solid in belief, united in fellowship, and willing to serve and love in God’s name upon His will.  We see that the Rock is not Peter, the rock, but is the foundation bedrock Who is Jesus. It is His teaching, wisdom, and Love that provide our strength and fuel our faithfulness. As the Spirit indwells, we are stronger and seated more firm upon Him. We are the temple and though we say we have given our lives to Christ, our sincerity is tested as our faithfulness endures the test of time and trials. The firmer the ground we are built upon the more we can withstand. Seek Him that leads you in building.

The verses come alive as God’s vision is cast upon us. Peter is mighty at delivering God’s message. In his walk with Jesus he stumbled, denied, cowered, and faltered. But, he persevered and after Jesus Ascended into the heavens, Peter was the first to stand and take leadership. It was God’s timing (see Acts 2:14)

The rock delivers the message. The rocks even shout out the name of God. But, the Rock is He whom our temple is built upon . We are the temple that receives the indwelling of the Spirit. We are holy and sanctified in His name. Standing firm upon an unwavering foundation.

So, God protects His children. We who are sincere and have taken the care to build our life on Jesus our Lord. The message is clear. Many claim Jesus, few build there lives upon Him. God instructs in detail. Think about the detail of the first tabernacle, the first priest, the Ark of The Covenant. Seek His word:

18 And you shall make two cherubim of gold; of hammered work you shall make them at the two ends of the mercy seat.
19 Make one cherub at one end, and the other cherub at the other end; you shall make the cherubim at the two ends of it of one piece with the mercy seat.
20 And the cherubim shall stretch out their wings above, covering the mercy seat with their wings, and they shall face one another; the faces of the cherubim shall be toward the mercy seat.
21 You shall put the mercy seat on top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the Testimony that I will give you.
22 And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony, about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.
Exodus 25

The verses from Exodus are a sample of His detailed instructions. Our sincerity in our repentance, our submission, and our walk with Jesus is paramount to our salvation. It is the very stone we cast our feet upon – it is strong and unwavering. We are protected because in the seriousness of God’s instruction, it can be derived that He would not bring us down this path in our faithfulness and trust with His promised spirit, to release us to the enemy. The enemy will cower and wane in our path. Only our flesh that is still under the perfection process of the Master, is subject to distraction. God will destroy those in our path that attempt to defile us. Destroy is strong : I would surmise to say that we are safe in what we hold dear in our hearts and have built our life on. It is Jesus-come in the flesh as a baby, born of a virgin in a manger. Seek Him and build your life upon Him.

…therefore the temple is built upon Jesus, our Rock.

12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,
13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward.
15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 (NIV)

All in the world shall perish. The material treasures we place upon our hearts are taking the place of a His holy spirit and leaving that spirit unprotected. For all that we build our life, our church, our relationships upon should be of our heavenly source and not of the world around us. Our church is rooted in Jesus Christ. Our lives are, as well. When Jesus told Peter that the church would be built upon him:

And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18

Peter by name was “Cephas“, which is rock. It can be read that he is the rock Jesus describes as the bedrock. But instead, Peter is a great orator and actions came from within him after Jesus had Ascended. The Rock that the church was built upon was not Peter, but was indeed Jesus who is the Foundation of the church, our lives, and the firm ground below us from where we look up and seek our Master’s voice and face! O glory for God’s grace. Peter was the rock that brought a concise message of Jesus Christ and many were brought to Jesus. Peter is an important conveyor of the Gospel. He persevered toward Christ and was given his place.

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Acts 3:6

So then, If we build our lives on a foundation that is not directly touching and upon the Lordship of Jesus Christ, we will know on the Day of Judgement. For all is judged as we meet God and an account of our life is given:

But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. Matthew 12:36

We hold captive the thought of how we build our lives now will have repercussion at our Judgement. We will be exposed at that time; however, be exposed now! That is what these words of God are for. Heavenly instruction is the word of God and all wisdom is held in His word. Ready you heart for the Return and build you house-your life-your church on the Bedrock Who is the Foundation of the very world we walk upon.

Some give their lives to the Lord and are saved. Then they build their temple, we as a vessel with the Spirit indwelling, upon the material. It is written in v. 15 he shall be saved, indeed, but without the riches of a life serving the Lord. There is merit and gratification in serving God. We build our lives on Jesus Christ and the desire to please and serve in inherent – if we obey and listen to heavenly instruction.

Our bodies are a temple of the Lord. We shall build our temple upon Bedrock, Who is Jesus. We may not, but will be saved as we have given our life to Him who, by grace, is Salvation. However, our treasures will be none as all we build up on earth will burn.

Place all of your hopes, dreams and trust in the indestructible Rock. Walk a walk in His image. Then on the Day of your judgement He will say,”Well done” Matthew 25:21
