orange and blue

kandinsky

bitter orange sunset cedes to the night
azure sea fades in the frailty of light
i long to see this day linger a bit
before i must hasten to find candle lit
all the while fond thoughts turn to you
caught exactly between orange and blue.

Pissarro

I am a buoy
upon azure sea
tethered secure
to rock beneath me

bantered by waves
indiscriminate blows
i sway and list
among flotsam throes

slow dark ships
gently shall pass
clamoring travelers
vainly amass

i wish i could hold each
and tell them of love
talk of starlit nights
from heaven above

this pilgrim

pablo-picasso-portrait-denfant-claude

Picasso

Radiant day warms my skin,
patience returns from where it’s been.
if i see through childlike eyes,
comfort awaits in sunlight’s rise.

i know there will be better days
when old paths have gone away.
and if my sight should turn awry,
abiding trust shall be heart’s tie.

should I show disdain for hopeful sky
and decide right then i can’t get by,
or build a castle on a million sand grains
only avoiding for now certain rains.

I shall not fear rills over stone
where wandering mind leaves me alone.
and try to keep stride in frenetic pace,
and finish strong this pilgrim’s race.

Cassatt

O, to not peer
through tinted glass,
where thoughts are veiled
in vain morass.

does clarity rise
on ascending wings?
poor clouded mind
won’t allow such things.

and as I wait
upon green lea,
in still waters
my soul shall see.

Rembrandt

peace arrives with
alighting swan
as cygnus glides
onto glass chiffon
ripples remind me
within my sleepy eyes
that vanity ends
upon bluer skies
ascend white cloud
into awaiting night
and return to He
who composed your flight

winter died

Jesus, Light of the World

summer

Lithe,
aromatic,
lightness of touch.
new breeze upon
stale air affronts.
my soul waits
for moments like these.
roam within winsome sapling
you fragrant gentle wind –
bringing relief to aged
countenance.
take me back
to days gone passed
when spring meant
the eve of longer days
and winter died
in enthusiasm
of laughter and endless
romps in sultry days.

outward days

Portrait_de_Jeanne_Pissarro_dite_Minette_(Camille_Pissarro),_1872

how lovely these times
that I spend with you
casting out vanity
into deeper blue

and of these moments
O my arable heart
drawn in heartfelt smile
inner peace a part

sow into my deepest
and most awaiting soul
countenance anew
and angst now a lull.

and eyes turned away
to meet your gaze
working on my inner man
for my outward days.
